Hello, how are you? Nice to see you again at long last!

My recent stint of absence was enforced by the rather annoying problem that my laptop decided to die on me last week! The past few days have been spent getting advice on whether it could be fixed followed by a frantic search for a new laptop which led me to various retailers, one of which had surprisingly little in stock! Deciding that I needed to be at least a little sensible and not just panic-buy the first laptop that I came across, I headed home and made an online purchase of a high(ish)-spec, right up to date model. In fact, it was so up to date that I had to wait another day for it to even be released. But that didn’t quite work either! Come the day of release, I received instead an e-mail informing me that the release date had been put back a week! Deciding that I couldn’t justify the further wait, I spent another few hours online going round and round in circles trying to make a decision on another laptop. I eventually decided on a slightly more expensive version of the original, one that had actually been released that day!

A mere 24 hours later and it had been delivered and I was like a little kid on Christmas day opening the box. It was so sleek, so light, so pretty! But unfortunately there was another issue… no CD disk drive! I spent 20 minutes trying to find a “hidden compartment” that I assumed must be concealing the drive until I managed to find reference in the user-manual to “external optical drive may be required”!

Grrrrrr!

What to do now? Return it and waste another few days (but its oh so pretty!)? Keep it and buy an external drive (but thats going to cost more money!)? Do I really need a disk drive anyway?! In the end I decided to just buy an external drive. After all, once all of my programmes are uploaded, I’d very rarely need a disk drive and the portability of the laptop is fantastic without all of that extra hardware weighing it down.

So here I am, after all of the blips along the way, back online and more or less back up to full working order. I’m really happy with the new laptop and I have to admit that the 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive, although not excessive by todays standards, have put a huge smile on my face seeing as I was struggling with 1GB RAM and a measley 40GB hard drive on my old laptop! Now I just need to get to grips with this Windows 7!

I consequently have a backlog of lots of photos to post so there will be lots to have a look at over the coming days.
